Bubble tea is not a fun thing.

Bubble tea is not a fun thing.

June 27, 2012

This morning, I woke up at like 9 to cramps. Fantastic. Yep, I started my period. Three days left and it decided to arrive. RUDE. At like 11, Theresa came in and told me she was going to the store, so I was alone for like an hour. And then their phone started ringing. Which was TERRIFYING. OH MY GOD. WHAT EVEN. It was this really loud piano-y music and I freaked out, because they have a piano. But I was alone. After some investigation, I figured out that it was just the phone and went back to hiding in my room.
When Theresa came back, she asked if I wanted anything to eat and I was like “Um okay. Toast?” and she said okay and then went into her room. And didn’t come back out. And she didn’t show me where anything in her kitchen is, so I didn’t know how to make toast for myself. So I just got dressed and waited for her to come back. Which she did. HUZZAH! So then we went down to the kitchen and she started making toast while I peed. (JANKA) I had toast with nutella and we didn’t really talk that much. Then she started talking on the phone, so I just left. I packed a little.
At 2, we left to go to the bus stop. We actually had a conversation! It was in English, but it still counts! We talked about America and the school system here and a lot of the differences between here and where I live, like the lack of train.
After a while, we got off the bus in Wismar and waited for more people to show up. Lisa (no American) and M (also no American, oh! I think his name is Mathes! Still gonna call him M though, since I’m not sure) came and we met them there. Lisa said hi to me in German but I didn’t know she was talking to me, so I just kind of smiled. And then I think she said something about me not understanding her and blargh I miss people who speak English. Then we got on a bus and I didn’t talk to them because they were talking really fast and not to me, so I just looked out the window.
We got off of the bus in Neu Kloster and went to a supermarket so M could get a water. I just walk in the back when they all walk together. Works for me! Then we stood outside for a long time while M got a hot dog or whatever weird discolored thing it is they eat here and Lisa got a strawberry.
And then we walked to the lake, which was okay because I didn’t have to talk and they pretty much ignored me.
When we got to the lake, I sat down on the grass and they all got onto a blanket thing, but um. I don’t want to sit with them, so I’m like a few feet away. Then, Lisa asked me if I know Leah’s American (Emily) and I told her that I do. She asked if I’d ask if she could come to the lake or something, I think, but I can’t because I don’t have Emily’s number and her phone doesn’t work in Germany anyway. So that was awkward and language barrier and meh.
So now I’m just sitting in the grass typing this and I probably have another hour here and nothing else to do. So this is going to be a really long post, okay? Okay. You have no choice. I mean, I guess you can stop reading but then you might miss something important! TWO DAYS LEFT. My eyes keep watering because 1. It’s cold and windy and my eyes are sensitive 2. I have a cold 3. I started my period so I’m emotional anyway 4. I WANT TO GO HOME. However, I shall control my tear ducts. It’s really cold actually. Meh. I don’t know what the temperature here is, but it’s approximately cold-enough-to-have-to-wear-a-jacket-and-not-shorts. And in Indiana it’s apparently like 95 degrees. And the clothes I packed are for 95 degrees so I’ve had to IMPROVISE.

We left to go to the party thing at the school, which was good. EVERYONE was there. We walked back and I stood around with Kaitlin and Madi and Emily for a while. We talked about stuff that’s been happening. And stuff. Then we signed cards for Herr Milde and Frau I-don’t-know-how-to-spell-her-name. We went inside the container since, according to Janka, they’re doing renovations to the auditorium thing. I sat by Kaitlin and Herr Milde gave us some stuff from their school. Free stuff is always good stuff! Then he talked about stuff, but it was in German and I was only half listening. He said that in 2013, the Germans are coming to America in October though. Last year, they came the week before school started. So that’s cool. They’ll be here for homecoming. That’s, er… Quite an experience…
After that, we got food. There were a lot of pasta salads, which I’m not the biggest fan of, but it was okay. And Kaitlin and I went pee (;D you’re welcome janka).
After we ate, we stood around for a while talking. Shelbi kept saying “It’s okay because I got a gnome,” which was really funny. And Here G came over, so we talked to him.
After that, we left and came back home. It was around 8ish so I went to my room and facetimed my mom. And read a little. And talked to Theresa on Facebook (which we actually do a lot, even though she’s just in the other room. I can understand stuff if it’s written down!). And theeen I went to sleep. I still haven’t finished packing. Oops!

June 26, 2012

On Tuesday, Kerewin woke us up. Meh. I thought we were going to be able to sleep in. We got dressed (barely) and had breakfast of… Once again, bread. Then Kerewin’s dad drove us to a bus stop in Neu Kloster. We got on a bus and SO DID JENNA. WOOP. So we talked to her the whole way to Wismar about the stuff she’d been doing and blahblahblah. Then at Wismar, we got on a train to Schwerin. There was a group of old people in front of us speaking Dutch or something. One of them ran into Kaitlin and she said “Sorry! Endschuldigung! Ah, you don’t speak that either!” It was funny. And Jenna was still there. Oh! And so was M! Whose name I still don’t know!
So theeeeen, we went to a mall. We had Asian food again, but it was good.
After that, we went shopping with Kerewin. In one store, there was a whole section of clothes that had the american flag on them. LIES. YOU’RE NOT AMERICAN. We didn’t really buy anything, except socks! And then we got the pens that EVERYONE here has.
After that, we got on a train to Wismar again. And Kaitlin slept. And I texted my mommy.
After that, we went to a bus station and sat there for a long time not doing anything. Our bus came after a long time and Theresa and I left. When we got back to her house, I took a nap. Then we went to dinner. I had a salad that had cucumbers on it. Ick. I sat there for a long time after I was done because I didn’t know if I could just leave. Eventually, I just thought “YOLO” and left. I went back to my room and facetimed my dad, my mom, and then Madi. And then I went to sleep.
I had a really bad day because we’re SO CLOSE to leaving, but it’s still a long time. So I was really whiny and stuff, but I just want to go home. Meh. Three days.

June 25, 2012

On Monday, Kaitlin and I woke up around 10:30, I think. Kaitlin was hungry, so she kind of raided the kitchen. We got ready and Kerewin’s dad picked us up at noon. Apparently ‘the f word’ isn’t that bad to say here. There were five of us and only room in his car for four, so he went “Oh f*ck.” (CENSORING FOR 13 YEAR OLDS AND GRANDMAS.)
Anyway, we all managed to fit in and we went to the grocery store. Kaitlin and I picked out some stuff as souvenirs, but when we went to pay, her card didn’t work. Apparently the store didn’t accept debit or something, I don’t know what was wrong. But we’d left all of our other money in the car, so Kerewin’s dad had to pay for us. It was only like €10, but I couldn’t tell if he was mad or not.
Then we left and went to Kerewin’s house. We had lunch, which was uh… Salami and cheese on bread. It was good. Then Kaitlin and I went to her room and played cards and watched the turtle and flipped through an Indianapolis book and blahblahblah. At that point, we were really bored, so we went up to the scary loft with Monopoly, which was Wismar themed. I won. After that, we took a nap because we were really tired. When we woke up, we went downstairs to eat pizza for dinner.
Then, we went to Connie’s house for Shelbi’s birthday party thing. Where we had more to eat. Oops. It’s all good though, because Janka and Shelbi were there! We talked a lot and Ryan built a tower out of bottles and it was ~ jolly good fun~ Then one of the Germans suggested we play a gigantic game of Telephone, which was pretty fun. (It got changed to not pg-13 things though! Eep!) Then uh… We played that game where someone writes a name on a post it note and puts it on your head and you have to guess it. Davis had Anne Frank. OH MEINE GUTE. I had Batman. After that, a bunch of people left, but Shelbi, Kaitlin, and I talked about stuff. Specifically, people we didn’t like. DRAMA. After a while, her host mom and Connie came over, so we talked to them too. I actually understood a lot of what her mom was saying! It was in both German and English. About horses or something.
I think we left at midnight and went back to Kerewin’s house. Kaitlin and I went right to sleep!

June 24, 2012

On Sunday, I woke up around 10 and got on a bus to Wismar. Theresa asked me if I normally listen to music while on the bus. Awkward. I’d left my headphone earphone what things at her house, so I just told her I didn’t want to.
After a while, we pulled up in front of the stop in Wismar and Kaitlin and Kerewin were there! I sat next to Kaitlin and we talked about what we’d done since we saw each other on Friday. After a really long time, we got on a bus to go to the zoo. It rained. We got there finally and walked to the entrance, where we met with their friend who’s name I can’t remember. We’ll just call him M. Anyway, I think Theresa asked us if we still wanted to go to the zoo or if we wanted to go to McDonald’s since it was raining. I think Kaitlin got confused, so she started rambling about how all Americans love McDonald’s and blahblahblah other stuff, but M laughed.
Eventually, I guess we decided on McDonald’s so we got on another bus and backtracked to Wismar to go to McDonald’s. There are MANY less here than America. At McDonald’s, Theresa yelled at Kaitlin because she was going to order in English. Meep. Whatever. Theresa ended up ordering mine, I guess. Kaitlin and I got our own table so we could talk without them listening in/yelling at us for speaking English. She was in kind of a bad mood. This thing has been happening to me recently where I get hungry, the feeling goes away, I eat, and then I feel like I’m going to throw up. Probably because I really only eat every other day. And only one meal on days I do eat. Oops! After Kaitlin and I finished eating, we got bubble tea! I had it in Berlin too and didn’t like it. The McDonald’s one was a little better but still tasted like soap.
After that, we left. And went home to Theresa’s house. So. We didn’t end up going to the zoo. D: At Theresa’s house, Kaitlin and I kind of hid in my room until we got hungry. Then there was some drama and not-fun-times, but we somehow ended up in the kitchen! We had spaghetti with um. Sausage and tomato sauce? It was good. Then we had spaghettieis, but it kind of sucked because it wasn’t very spaghettieis-y. And frozen.
After that, we went up to my room and watched 13 Going On 30 and Hairspray. Then we named the moth that lives in my room Muhammad. Then we went to sleep!

This Muhammad the Moth. He lives in my room.
